Hi, I’m Laura.
I made this site to help middle aged women like me who wants to look younger.
At one point in my life, I thought, gone are the days when others would pay a bit of attention to look at me. No one would tell me that my skin is glowing when I used to always hear it. It’s not that the attention completes who I am but let’s face it, many of us need that kind of validation — that we are still youthful, beautiful, and as vibrant as the pretty young women around us. Perhaps, it is mainly because we used to be them.
Many of us used to have better-looking skin — younger-looking skin to be more precise. We used to not worry about age spots because we didn’t have them. We never paid any attention to any of those wrinkle creams because we didn’t need them and we used to not have dark circles under our eyes. But now we do. We have wrinkles here and there, and a number of other skin problems we never had before. Of course, not all women have problems like these. Many women, even those in their 40s and 50s, still have flawless skin. It is normal to envy them a little but to me, they serve as an inspiration. And this inspiration and the drive to have younger-looking skin guided me in my journey.
Being a middle-aged woman can make you feel invisible. At least that’s how I felt before. I felt invisible and it took a toll on my self-esteem. I am not shallow in any way but I do care about my appearance and I care about my skin. Women my age likely have the same problem because hey, it’s the course of nature. Our skins become less elastic, we get wrinkles, and sometimes it even looks dull. That is what time does to us.
On most days, I just looked old and tired. And this led me to looking back on how wonderful it was to have youthful-looking skin. It was the least of my worries back then but when I reached the point of becoming “a woman of a certain age”, it just felt like I have lost my youth oh so suddenly. And that did not feel good. It didn’t feel right. I could Barely recognize myself when I look in the mirror. I know it sounds overly dramatic but that is how I truly felt.
If you feel this way right at this moment, calm down and do not feel bad because you are not alone. There are many of us out there and I used to be one of those women who struggled to keep my skin wrinkle-free.
But now, I am hoping I can help others by sharing my story and my methods on how to choose the best skincare products.
Some women I know use a lot of creams and other skincare products for them to get better complexion or tighter skin. Others resort to surgical measures. I am NOT a fan of Botox or anything that is injected to make my skin look better, tighter, or younger. I am afraid of things like that to be honest so my only choice was to look for products I can apply topically.
I looked for creams, the right kinds of soap, the right kind of lotion and anything you can imagine to make my skin look younger. But I found that some skincare products just didn’t work for me no matter how effective they claimed to be. I also found that some products worked on some of my friends but were never effective on my skin. On other times, it was the other way around.
The Road To Beautiful, Younger-Looking Skin
My journey has taught me a lot of things but it also brought about better complexion and youthful skin. I feel more confident now and I would like You to feel that way too. I would like you to be able to turn back the hands of time without having to go through what I had to go through. I scoured for products that I felt would work on me and I have to say that the experience was dizzying. It was confusing and of course, it cost me a lot of money. It was so frustrating that I nearly gave up. But I am hoping that through this blog, you’d be able to learn how to choose the best skincare products for yourself so you can both save your skin and some money too.
How To Choose The Best Skincare Products
But how does one choose which skincare product is best? I have found that reading reviews is imperative. Read as many reviews as possible to get an insight on what the product claims to do and what it actually delivers. This has helped me a lot but I do know that the research can eat up a lot of man hours. Don’t worry though, I saved a number of blog posts (including reviews) just for you.
But first things first, how does one choose which skincare product is best? How will you know if a product is right for you?
Looking for a product to get rid of wrinkles or one that would reduce the signs of aging can often mean a short trip to the nearest drug store. But with so many products available, it is easy to be overwhelmed. You know the feeling — too many products, too little time.
Some products can be very effective if you know what you are looking for but how do we know what we should look for? What knowledge do we need for us to make better decisions on which products to use and which ones to ignore?
Know Your Skin Type
I used to just keep buying skincare products that promised skin rejuvenation. This included products that graced the pages of glossy magazines to those that were advertised on TV. Some worked while others didn’t. It was a game of chance. When I realized that I am spending too much money on creams and lotions, I started doing my own research. I learned that I have to pay attention to my skin and not just pay attention to the skin that I want.
I learned about my skin type. Is my skin oily? Is it dry? These are things that determined what worked on my skin and what didn’t. So I took notice of my own skin to see what type it is and what products will likely improve it. Oily, dry, and sensitive are just the basics though. There are a number of elements that influence a person’s skin type and this includes hormones, genetic predisposition, skin disorders, medications, diet, stress, pollution, climate, sun exposure, among others.
It’s All About The Ingredients
While some ingredients can be defined as harmful because they are made from chemicals, others are not as obvious. There are organic ingredients that can irritate your skin too. In fact, some ingredients whether chemical or organic, can cause skin problems like dryness or too much oil production. I used to just buy products and just apply them on my skin without taking a look at the ingredients. Some ingredients benefit others but these same ingredients can irritate other people’s skins too. It can be a bit tricky but with some research, you’d be able to see what your skin needs.
Repetition, Patience, And Discipline
Aside from learning about my skin type, I also learned that repetition is key in the skincare regimen department. We apply this on our daily lives and believe wholeheartedly that repetition is the key to success. It’s like mathematics; you have to keep practicing to be good at it. With skincare on the other hand, you’d have to keep applying the product over and over for a long period of time before you see the effects.
I used to be so attracted to miraculous treatments that promised younger-looking skin overnight. I wanted instant results. But who could blame me? I felt old and looked old that it was natural for me to want to look young again, pronto. In time, I learned to manage my expectations and I learned how to wait. I also learned how to be more disciplined with my skincare routine. I realized that I needed a daily skincare routine instead of just applying the products whenever I felt like it.
It usually takes a few weeks to a couple of months before you see improvements so it is a good idea to stick with the regimen. This proved to be difficult. I have a job and there are a lot of chores to do at home. Often, I’d come home pretty tired making it impossible to apply a night cream before I go to bed. But I had to remind myself that if I want results, I have to keep applying my skincare product of choice. And I did. And it worked. It still works.
